Dorothy McMeekin was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1932. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from Wilson College in Pennsylvania in 1953. She received her Master’s degree in Botany from Wellesley College in 1955 and her Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Cornell University in 1959. McMeekin taught in the General Education Department of the College of Natural Science at Michigan State University from 1966 to 1990. Beginning in 1990 she taught for the Botany-Plant Pathology Department until she retired in 1997.
