From 1968 to 1980 it functioned under the name Department of Family and Child Sciences. In 1980 this department merged with the Department of Family Ecology (established in 1960) to form the Department of Family and Child Sciences. Later name changes include Department of Family and Child Ecology and Human Development and Family Studies.
