Historical Note

Howland House was bought in 1948 by fifty Michigan State College (now Michigan State University) students (many of them World War II veterans) to form a student housing cooperative. Howland House has moved twice and is now located at 415 M.A.C. Avenue in East Lansing, Michigan. Howland House is currently part of the MSU Student Housing Cooperative.

Scope and Content

The Howland House collection contains reunion materials and photograph boards. The reunion materials consist of photocopies of information sheets from former members in which the members describe their lives since they left Howland House, with some containing images of themselves. These information sheets appear to be from the 1992 reunion. There is also an update from 2010 which includes copies of interior and exterior photographs of Howland House in 2010. The collection also includes photographs of the original interior and exterior of Howland House mounted on poster board.
