Biographical Note

James Wellington was one of the Agricultural College’s earliest students as a member of the 1859-1860 freshman class. He was a member of one of the first student organizations on campus, one of the two lyceums, clubs in which students debated current issues and studied to enter public service. At the time of his attendance, he was one of only 19 students during the turbulent restructuring of the college. Mr. Wellington did not earn a degree from MAC, however; rising costs prevented him from returning in 1860.
