Biographical Note

Charles Woodbury was born on April 30, 1884 to Chester and May Woodbury. His father was a prominent businessman in the Lansing, Michigan area. Charles attended Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University) and graduated in 1904 with a Bachelor of Science. He worked on his father’s farm in East Lansing for a year. He then returned to M.A.C. for graduate school for a year and received his Master of Science Degree in 1906. In 1907, he accepted a position as Assistant Professor in Horticulture at Purdue University. In 1908 he was an Assistant Professor in Agriculture and in 1909 he was Associate Horticulturist at the Purdue University Agricultural Experiment Station in Lafayette, Indiana. He married Marion A. Benjamin in Lafayette on June 23, 1909. They had a son, John Benjamin Woodbury, who was born on May 30, 1911. He later died on October 26, 1914. Their daughter Barbara Ann was born October 20, 1913.

In 1912, Charles became Professor of Horticulture and Horticulturist at the Agriculture Experiment Station at Purdue. From 1913 to 1917, he was a Professor of Horticulture. From 1918 to 1920 he was the Director of the Agriculture Experiment Station. In 1920 he took a job in Washington D.C. as the head of the Bureau of Raw Products Research of the National Canners Association.

Scope and Contents note

The papers consist of Charles G. Woodbury's 1904 bachelor of science degree and 1906 master of science degree. Both degrees are from Michigan Agricultural College (now Michigan State University).
